Oscar Nominees: Best Original Screenplay
My predictions: 4/5
My ballot: Coming soon!
The nominees: Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7
It’s sad to nominations leader “Mank” miss out here given that its script by the late Jack Fincher really is so integral to its quality. At least The Trial of the Chicago 7 got in, since that would have been a slap in the face to Aaron Sorkin, who did get snubbed in the directing category. All five of these films are nominated for Best Picture, which was never a sure thing for Judas and the Black Messiah and Sound of Metal. I’m particularly happy to see Minari and Promising Young Woman here. I imagine that “Soul” wasn’t too far off, and I would have loved if “Palm Springs” had shown up.
My current bet to win: I think The Trial of the Chicago 7 can still win.
