Golden Globe Nominees: Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
My predictions: 4/5
Who’s missing? Sophia Loren (The Life Ahead), Zendaya (Malcolm and Marie)
I had suspected that Zendaya would miss out because her film is peaking too late – releasing this week – but then we get Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), for a film that doesn’t come out until the end of the month. I haven’t seen it yet but plan to soon. It’s a snub for Loren give that her film did earn two nominations, for foreign film and song. The other four were all expected, though Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) is joined only by her late costar Chadwick Boseman, and Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) is all by herself. Frances McDormand (Nomadland) and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) both saw their films do very well.
Who will win? I was going to go with McDormand, but I think I may now switch to Mulligan.
