Oscar Predictions: Best Sound Editing

Very likely: 1917, Ford v Ferrari

Possible: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Joker, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Parasite, Rocketman, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Avengers: Endgame

Unlikely: Ad Astra, Toy Story 4, Us

The rundown: Two years ago, for the first time, this category matched up 100% with the Best Sound race. I’m not entirely confident about my picks there, and I’m trying to wade through the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards nominees to figure out what films might be the frontrunners here. 1917 and Ford v Ferrari seem strongest, while Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Joker, Parasite, and Rocketman are all good bets too. Watch out also for Jojo Rabbit, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Irishman, or Avengers: Endgame. It could also be Ad Astra, Toy Story 4 or Us.

One possible crazy scenario: A different Marvel movie than people anticipate makes the cut here: Captain Marvel.

Forecasted winner: I think Ford v Ferarri wins this.
