Oscar Nominees: Best Film Editing

The nominees: Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Parasite

I didn’t even notice when nominees were announced that this is one place where “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which I had in the number one slot, missed out. I’m totally fine with that because I wasn’t on board with that film’s pacing or length. The Irishman is certainly long, but there’s a structure there which definitely took some artistry. I’m thrilled that Parasite made the cut since that wasn’t a sure thing and bodes well for its potential victory. Jojo Rabbit is another mild surprise, but a good one, and then we have Joker and an expected entry here that didn’t show up in a lot of other categories, Ford v Ferrari. Too bad for “Knives Out,” but I’m not sure that was ever all that likely.

My current bet to win: That’s a tough call. I’ll pick Parasite.
