Oscar Winner Predictions: Best Makeup and Hairstyling
The competition: Foxcatcher (Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier), Guardians of the Galaxy (Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou and David White)
Previous winners: Dallas Buyers Club, Les Miserables, The Iron Lady, The Wolfman, Star Trek, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, La Vie en Rose
My winner: Announcing shortly after the Oscars!
The facts: Corso won for “Lemony Snicket” and was nominated again for “Click.” Coulier won for “The Iron Lady” and is back for the first time since. Everyone else is a first-time nominee. Most years, the winner of this category has been a major film nominated elsewhere, though some tech-heavy films have managed to win too. This year, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is up for Best Picture and a number of other trophies, “Foxcatcher” is nominated for Best Director and in a few other major races, and “Guardians of the Galaxy” is recognized only for Best Visual Effects.
Who should win: I think that “Guardians of the Galaxy” is technically the best, but they’re all strong nominees.
Who will win: Back in 2002, Frida’s unibrow beat a thousand creatures from “The Time Machine,” so history is on the side of Steve Carell’s nose in Foxcatcher over numerous aliens in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
