Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
The competition: Patricia Arquette’s protective mother (Boyhood), Jessica Chastain’s spoiled wife (A Most Violent Year), Keira Knightley’s bright math whiz (The Imitation Game), Emma Stone’s angst-filled daughter (Birdman), and Meryl Streep’s charismatic witch (Into the Woods).
For your information: This is Streep’s astounding 29th nomination, and her fourth consecutive nod. She has won eight times, twice in this category. This is Chastain’s third nomination. She won in 2012 for “Zero Dark Thirty.” This is Knightley’s third nomination and Stone’s second. Arquette has been nominated three times before for her TV work on “Medium.”
Who should win? Stone is my definite choice. Arquette, Chastain, and Knightley are all good too, and Streep has had more difficult roles.
Who will win? I’ll go with Arquette to spearhead this race, though I’d love to see Stone take it.
