Tuesday’s Top Trailer: That Awkward Moment

Welcome to a weekly feature here at Movies with Abe, Tuesday's Top Trailer. One of my favorite parts about going to see movies is the series of trailers that airs beforehand and, more often than not, the trailer is far better than the actual film. Each week, I'll be sharing a trailer I've recently seen. Please chime in with comments on what you think of the trailer and how you think the movie is going to be.

That Awkward Moment – Opening January 31, 2014

Normally, a comedy about three twentysomething guys trying to make sure that their one-night stands don’t turn to relationships wouldn’t be of much interest to me. That’s doubly true of any film slated for wide theatrical release in January, which usually signals lesser quality. This film’s stars, however, all of whom happen to be the same age, twenty-six, make it worth a second look. Zac Efron, who got his big break with “High School Musical,” has actually made smart career choices since then, participating in films like “Hairspray” and “Me and Orson Welles” to balance out the likes of “17 Again” and “New Year’s Eve.” The other two actors starred in two of the best films from the Sundance Film Festival this past year, and I’m definitely interested in whatever their next projects are. Miles Teller was terrific as an alcoholic high school student in “The Spectacular Now,” and he will surely thrive in a fully comedic role. Michael B. Jordan, who had an impressive TV resume, was spectacular in “Fruitvale Station,” and it should be fun to see him in a lighter but equally likeable part. I’m also happy to see Imogen Poots, from another strong Sundance film, “The Look of Love,” in the cast. This premise is far from original, but it’s just what the early months of the year could use in terms of unserious, hopefully hilarious fare that helps to get 2014 off to a good start and continue to catapult these young actors towards a bright future in this industry.
