South Asian International Film Festival Spotlight: The Good Road
I’m thrilled to be able to screen selections from the 10th Annual South Asian International Film Festival, which takes place in New York City from December 3rd-8th, 2013.
The Good Road
Directed by Gyan Correa
December 8 at 7:30pm
This closing night selection is also India’s Oscar submission for Best Foreign Film. Like “Siddarth,” it has much to do with parents searching for their lost child, though in this case it’s because they drove away from a rest stop without realizing that he wasn’t in fact sleeping in the back of the car and had instead crawled out. Their son, Aditya, finds himself in the unexpected company of two truck drivers, while the parallel story of nine-year-old Poonam and her journey to a brothel also plays out. None of the threads are all too inspiring, and this final film of the festival is hardly its best offering.
