Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
The competition: Halle Berry’s multiple-personality disorder-afflicted woman (Frankie and Alice), Nicole Kidman’s grieving mother (Rabbit Hole), Jennifer Lawrence’s tough young caretaker (Winter’s Bone), Natalie Portman’s overworked ballerina (Black Swan), and Michelle William’s long-suffering wife (Blue Valentine).
For your information: Kidman is the reigning champ, earning her eighth nomination, with three past wins, for “The Hours,” “Moulin Rouge,” and “To Die For.” This is Portman’s third nomination, previously winning for “Closer” and getting nominated for “Anywhere But Here,” both in the supporting category. Williams was nominated in 2005 for “Brokeback Mountain.” Berry won a TV trophy in 1999 for “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” and was nominated in this category in 2001 for “Monster’s Ball.” This is Lawrence’s first nomination.
Who should win: Personally, I’d pick Lawrence or Kidman. Of course, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to see “Frankie and Alice.”
Who will win: It’s highly unlikely that anyone except for swan queen Natalie Portman can win this award.

And nor should they. Just saw the film today, and wow was Portman good. I liked the movie better than you did, by the way. Review will be up Tuesday.
I'm glad you liked it. I'm having a tough time explaining to people why I didn't, but, purely and simply, it just didn't grab me at all.
