Oscar Nominees: Best Makeup

My predictions: 1/3, picking only “Star Trek”

The nominees: Il Divo, Star Trek, The Young Victoria

This tiny little category was perhaps the most surprising of all, though not in a terribly interesting way. “District 9” didn’t make the cut, and neither did “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” which did get recognized in other technical categories. The nomination for “The Young Victoria” does make sense, though I’m much more surprised about “Il Divo,” the story of an Italian prime minister that was likely much less showy than the two fantastical films I had predicted to get in. I haven’t seen it, though; have you?
