SAG Nominees: Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture
My predictions: 4/5, missing Bullock
Not nominated at the Golden Globes: No one
Who’s missing: Emily Blunt (The Young Victoria), Abbie Cornish (Bright Star)
It looks like Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) is actually going to ride this one out. I still have yet to see the film, but I’m planning to go tomorrow, and then hopefully I’ll be able to tell myself that it’s actually a good performance deserving of a nomination. With Bullock included, it looks like Emily Blunt is the odd Globe Drama nominee left out, along with poor Abbie Cornish. Transplanted from the Globe Drama lineup are Helen Mirren (The Last Station), Carey Mulligan (An Education), and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), whose name elicited cheers from the audience when it was announced this morning. Rounding out the list is last year’s champ Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia), on her seventh solo SAG nomination.
Who could win? This will likely be Mulligan.
What does this mean for the Oscar race? This just solidifies this lineup for the long haul, and it’s up to Cornish or Blunt to bump out the weaker links, which would be Mirren and Bullock.
