Golden Globe Nominees: Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical

My predictions: 3/5, missing Downey Jr. and Gordon-Levitt
Who’s missing: Bradley Cooper (The Hangover)

I suppose I was foolish to fill the two unknown slots with arguably supporting contenders Alec Baldwin (It’s Complicated) and George Clooney (The Men Who Stare At Goats). Instead, they’re replaced with two expected candidates, Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer). The latter film played better than I had anticipated, and while “The Hangover” also scored a Best Picture nod, its star Bradley Cooper couldn’t break in here. That’s because of the other three locks in this category: Matt Damon (The Informant!), Daniel Day-Lewis (Nine), and Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man). One of the most puzzling and surprising things about the Golden Globes this year is that Stuhlbarg made it in but his film got snubbed in the Best Picture category (read that post later), but good for him!

Who could win? Given the popularity of his film, it will probably be .
What does this mean for the Oscar race? Neither of the nominees I didn’t predict will get Oscar nominations. Only Day-Lewis and Stuhlbarg are legitimate Oscar contenders, and I still think they’ll be tossed aside in favor of love elsewhere for their films.
