Final Golden Globe Winner Predictions
The Golden Globes are tonight, and, like last year, I’ve seen every single nominee with one exception: the universally-reviled “Cats,” which contends only for its original song, which I actually happen to like and would love to see rewarded. Otherwise, I’ve seen everything, and here’s where it all stands.
Last year delivered one of the biggest surprises in recent history in the form of “Bohemian Rhapsody” winning for Best Motion Picture – Drama, and “Green Book” also exhibited a strong showing that led to its eventual Oscar win for Best Picture. A foreign film expected to compete in top Oscar races, “Roma” was up and won multiple prizes, and this year we have that with “Parasite,” my favorite film of the year. Its director, however, contends against Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Sam Mendes, so it’s far from certain that he’ll win.
As usual, this could be the start of the wave of season-long winners, so we’ll see if Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, and Jennifer Lopez all win (I’m predicting all but one of those), or if “Marriage Story” takes three of those categories and someone else wins the supporting actor trophy. I’d be happiest if the motion picture nominee I liked least, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” didn’t win any of its prizes, leaving room for Eddie Murphy to win a deserved award and a few nice surprises. I’m hopeful that Awkwafina manages to win, and I’m taking my biggest risk by predicting that “The Lion King,” which isn’t eligible for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, will take home two prizes.
I imagine that it will be a fun show. Let’s hope for some excitement! Check out my predictions below and leave your thoughts in the comments! Full analysis can be found by clicking on category headings. Head over to TVwithAbe.com for TV categories.
