Oscar Nominees: Best Original Song
My predictions: 3/5, picking songs from “Fifty Shades Darker” and “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” over “Call Me By Your Name” and “Marshall”
My ballot: Come back in February!
The nominees: “Mystery of Love” (Call Me By Your Name), “Remember Me” (Coco), “This Is Me” (The Greatest Showman), “Stand Up for Something” (Marshall), “Mighty River” (Mudbound)
This is an interesting list of songs which I just listened to as I was writing my reactions to this category. I’m not mourning the snub of anything, and I’m glad that “Mighty River” made the cut. This is a pretty good selection though I still contend that this category could have been made up entirely of songs from “The Greatest Showman” if more than one had been submitted. No more thoughts for now other than that it’s interesting that this is one of the just four nominations that Best Picture nominee “Call Me By Your Name” scored.
My current bet to win: I think This Is Me can take it all the way.
