Oscar Winner Predictions: Best Sound
The competition: American Sniper (John Reitz, Gregg Rudloff and Walt Martin), Birdman (Jon Taylor, Frank A. Montaño and Thomas Varga), Interstellar (Gary A. Rizzo, Gregg Landaker and Mark Weingarten), Unbroken (Jon Taylor, Frank A. Montaño and David Lee), Whiplash (Craig Mann, Ben Wilkins and Thomas Curley)
Previous winners: Gravity, Les Miserables, Hugo, Inception, The Hurt Locker, Slumdog Millionaire, The Bourne Ultimatum
My winner: Announcing shortly after the Oscars!
The facts: Landaker is the most rewarded technician in this rate, with wins for “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and “Speed.” Lee won for “The Matrix” and “Chicago.” Reitz, Rudloff, Martin, Montaño, and Weingarten are all returning nominees. This prize often goes to a tech-heavy film or a musical. All but “Whiplash” are nominated for Best Sound Editing as well.
Who should win: “Interstellar” for sure
Who will win: I think Interstellar should be far enough ahead to take this.
