Oscar Winner Predictions: Best Film Editing
The competition: American Sniper (Joel Cox and Gary D. Roach), Boyhood (Sandra Adair), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Barney Pilling), The Imitation Game (William Goldenberg), Whiplash (Tom Cross)
Previous winners: Gravity, Argo, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, The Hurt Locker, Slumdog Millionaire, The Bourne Ultimatum
My winner: Announcing shortly after the Oscars!
The facts: Goldenberg won in 2012 for “Argo” and earned three additional nominations in the past. Cox has been nominated twice before, both for Clint Eastwood collaborations, earning a win for “Unforgiven” in 1992. The other three are new to this race. All five of these films are nominated for Best Picture and all but “American Sniper” and “Whiplash” are nominated for Best Director.
Who should win: “The Imitation Game”
Who will win: Without “Birdman” in the past, it’s hard to know who the frontrunner is. I’m going to go out on a limb and say American Sniper.
