Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical
The competition: Amy Adams’ suppressed painter (Big Eyes), Emily Blunt’s baker’s wife (Into the Woods), Helen Mirren’s pretentious restaurateur (The Hundred-Foot Journey), Julianne Moore’s hysterical celebrity (Maps to the Stars), and Quvenzhané Wallis’ bright-eyed orphan (Annie).
For your information: Adams won this award last year for “American Hustle.” This is her sixth nomination in eight years. This is Mirren’s thirteenth nomination. She has won three times. Moore has seven previous nominations and one win, and is also nominated in the film drama actress category this year. This is Blunt’s fifth nomination, and she has won once. This is Wallis’ first nomination. Blunt’s film is the only one nominated for Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical.
Who should win? Moore’s film is one of the precious few that I haven’t yet seen. Far and away, Blunt is the best in this category, though Wallis is also plenty spunky. I’ve preferred other Adams and Mirren performances, though it’s not as if they have too much to work with in these projects.
Who will win? Last year I bet against Adams, and I’ll do so again by picking Blunt.
