SAG Nominees: Best Actor in a Supporting Role
My predictions: 5/5
Who’s missing? Josh Brolin (Inherent Vice), Johnny Depp (Into the Woods), Tom Wilkinson (Selma)
This was the only film category where I scored 100%. I haven’t seen Robert Duvall (The Judge) in his film, but he’s earned SAG nominations before that haven’t translated to Oscar nods. If he gets recognized tomorrow for a Golden Globe, that might change things. The other four contenders are all terrific and pretty expected: Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), Edward Norton (Birdman), Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher), and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash). It’s particularly exciting to see Simmons here since he’s been so great in so much and now he’s finally earning recognition for it.
Who could win? I suspect Simmons will sweep much of awards season.
