SAG Winner Predictions: Best Actor in a Supporting Role
The competition: Barkhad Abdi’s determined pirate (Captain Phillips), Daniel Bruhl’s confident racer (Rush), Michael Fassbender’s Bible-thumping slave owner (12 Years a Slave), James Gandolfini’s kindhearted bachelor (Enough Said), and Jared Leto’s kindhearted transvestite (Dallas Buyers Club).
For your information: This whole group is pretty new to the SAG universe. Gandolfini won three individual TV trophies for “The Sopranos” as well as a few ensemble prizes. Both Bruhl and Fassbender shared in a SAG prize as part of the ensemble of “Inglourious Basterds.” Both Fassbender and Leto are also nominated as part of their casts.
Who should win: All strong choices. My personal pick would be Bruhl or Fassbender.
Who will win: It should be Leto, unless these actors want to honor Gandolfini.
