Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Director – Motion Picture
The competition: David O. Russell (American Hustle), Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips), Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity), Alexander Payne (Nebraska), and Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave)
For your information: The most-nominated player in this category is actually Payne, who has three previous mentions from the past decade or so. Russell was nominated once, in 2010, for “The Fighter.” The most-nominated films this year are “American Hustle” and “12 Years a Slave.” Four times in the past decade, this award has not matched up with the Best Motion Picture – Drama winner. The only time a comedy won in the past twenty-five years was “Gosford Park” in 2001, and we have two comedy nominees here.
Who should win? Greengrass, but Cuaron and McQueen deserve it too
Who will win? It’s a battle between Cuaron and McQueen. I’ll give the edge to the former.
