Golden Globe Nominees: Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
My predictions: 4/5, missing Winslet
Who’s missing? Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color), Bérénice Bejo (The Past)
Fourth-fifths of this category was pretty locked up from the start, but the fifth slot was always up for grabs. Instead of either of the French nominees, it went to Kate Winslet (Labor Day), whose film I haven’t yet seen. I’m disappointed to see Exarchopoulos snubbed since this was an important hurdle towards an Oscar nomination, but hopefully it can still happen. Of the other four nominees, Sandra Bullock (Gravity) is predictably sitting prettiest thanks to a Best Director nomination for her film, while Judi Dench (Philomena) should be happy about Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Screenplay nominations for her film that most expected to go to the film starring Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks). Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) didn’t see any recognition for her film beyond costar Sally Hawkins, who bumped an important player from the supporting race.
Who will win? I think Blanchett, but who knows?
