Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
The competition: Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland), Johnny Depp’s clueless traveler (The Tourist), Paul Giamatti’s lovelorn producer (Barney’s Version), Jake Gyllenhaal’s charismatic Pfizer rep (Love and Other Drugs), and Kevin Spacey’s fast-talking lobbyist (Casino Jack).
For your information: This makes ten nominations for Depp, who won on his last try for the first time for “Sweeney Todd.” (For the record, Depp can still win even though he’s nominated twice – Tim Robbins beat himself in this category in 1992). This is Spacey’s fifth film nomination, and despite being a two-time Oscar winner, he has never won a Globe. This is Giamatti’s third film nomination, and he won a TV trophy in 2008 for “John Adams.” This is the first nomination for Gyllenhaal.
Who should win: I’d go with Spacey.
Who will win: It could be one of the two Depps, though I think that Spacey will finally win his first Golden Globe.
