Tomorrow morning, the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards will be announced. I made detailed predictions in my Golden Globe Musings series a few weeks ago, and now I’m debating just how much of them should be changed since the only true precursor with corresponding drama/comedy nominations is the Satellite Awards, and there were no less than eight nominees in pretty much all of the categories, something which doesn’t happen at the Globes. So the question is whether Black Swan or True Grit can overtake The Fighter and 127 Hours in the Best Motion Picture – Drama race and others. I’m fully aware that I’m predicting Made in Dagenham to receive three acting nods while Natalie Portman represents her film’s sole mention. I’m also least confident about Mark Wahlberg’s chances after seeing the film, but I think I’ll keep him in since I’m not so sure about either Bardem or Gosling to take his place. My biggest gamble, of course, is not having Jennifer Lawrence in the Best Actress category or Andrew Garfield in the supporting race. Since surprises are sure to arise, I’m inclined to keep my predictions as they are. I don’t doubt that Lawrence and Garfield can get Oscar nods, but I think they’ll resurface later on (i.e. Thursday with the SAG nods) and ultimately get nominated at the big leagues.
No guts, no glory predictions:
Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) for Best Motion Picture Actress – Drama
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
“Fair Game” for Best Motion Picture – Drama
Come back all day tomorrow for hourly category analysis. Nominations should be announced at around 8:40am EST. Feel free to leave your own predictions and notes in the comments.
