The Golden Globes are upon us, and with the exception of four categories, things are actually looking pretty solid. Of those four categories, of course, two happen to be the biggest races of the night. Best Motion Picture – Drama could go to “Avatar,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Up in the Air,” or even “Inglourious Basterds.” Only once in the past five years (last year) has the winner of that category gone on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. The directing race is also deadlocked between former spouses James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow, and there’s always the chance that either Clint Eastwood or Quentin Tarantino could upset. The other two races don’t mean much for the Oscars but are certainly interesting, and that’s Best Picture and Best Actor for the musicals and comedies. Any of the five nominated men could easily win, and at least three of the movies could too (don’t count on “The Hangover” or “It’s Complicated”). Otherwise, expect the expected, though I’d love a good surprise like Anna Kendrick beating Mo’Nique for Best Supporting Actress. Also, watch out for a bad surprise, in the form of Sandra Bullock over Carey Mulligan for Best Drama Actress. And now, my final predictions for the Golden Globe film categories. If I had to predict one big shocker (no guts, no glory style), I’d say Clint Eastwood for Best Director. Leave your predictions and reactions in the comments.
