Golden Globe Nominees: Best Original Score

My predictions: 2/5, predicting “Avatar” and “Up”
Who’s missing: “Invictus,” “The Lovely Bones,” “A Serious Man,” “Up in the Air”

This is quite an interesting list. I’m most ecstatic about the inclusion of A Single Man, which along with Carter Burwell’s score for “A Serious Man,” was easily the best soundtrack of the year. I’m so happy it made it here, and if the film can’t manage a Best Picture nomination, at least this should recognize some of what made it so incredible. I have yet to see Avatar so I’m waiting to hear the music until I actually watch the film. The Informant! is a fun choice, and the music from Up is also wonderful. The intriguing fifth nominee is Where the Wild Things Are, which had quite an imaginative soundtrack, though I have some trouble differentiating song from score with the tracks from that film. Otherwise, this is a solid and cool list.

Who could win? I’ll be hopeful and say A Single Man.
What does this mean for the Oscar race? Not much necessarily, especially because past nominees like “The Fountain” didn’t go on to get nominated for Oscars, but this cements the status of “Avatar” and “Up” while giving a helpful nudge to the other three.
